Grand Central Parkway Walk
In the fall of 2021, myself and a collaborator, Eric Ervin, walked along the length of the Grand Central Parkway in Queens, NY, over a series of weekends. What does it mean to move at the pace of a human sized body alongside a road meant to carry cars? The first parkways were designed to include pedestrians, but the Grand Central prevents people from accessing it, as do most modern highways. I wanted to know what we would learn about how we move through this city, and the neighborhoods that the road travels through.
You can read about our walk in the series of posts here and in the letterpress pamphlet Where the Sidewalk Ends; there are copies of that pamphlet available here.
